The Victoria Wine Society continues its 2009/2010 tasting series on Monday, September 28, at 7:00 pm, with a specially selected assortment of Pinot Noirs from around the world.

“Pinot Noir is obviously traditionally associated with Burgundy and its famous terroir, but with this tasting we want to showcase the amazing variety of gorgeous Pinot Noirs now being made globally,” says Victoria Wine Society President Glenn Barlow.

The Pinot Noir-focused event – which will feature a carefully chosen lineup of wines from around the world that are currently available in the market – will be held in a boardroom tasting format at the Ambrosia Event Centre, 638 Fisgard Street. It will be led by a panel of guest speakers selected specifically for their Pinot Noir expertise.

Because availability is limited, tickets must be purchased in advance. Tickets ($40 for members; $50 for non-members) and annual memberships ($25 per person; $35 per couple) are available at BC Wineguys (2579 Cadboro Bay Road, 250-592-8466) and Cook St. Village Liquor Store (109 – 230 Cook Street, 250-995-2665).

The Victoria Wine Society, currently celebrating its 20-year anniversary, is an independent, not-for-profit tasting group that meets six times each year. Though all tastings are open to the public, members receive a $10 discount on each event. Members range from enthusiastic beginners to collectors, as well as people in the wine trade.

Topics for tastings range from regions – like new Bordeaux releases or the wines of Piedmont – to international comparisons of single varietals, like Riesling or Shiraz. The 2009/2010 series continues with a Bordeaux tasting in October, a BC Challenge blind tasting on November 23, and the season finale – a tasting and social featuring wines from the Côtes du Rhône – in March 2010.
