Wine OR Wine & Food

Rustic yet elegant, fruity yet earthy, Syrah yet Shiraz.  This grape whatever you know it as, it has even been called the most masculine grape in the world…its Syrah!  This week we pour all Syrah, so if you enjoy your reds, this is the tasting for you.

This line up will include:

2007 M. Chapoutier – Petite Rouche – Crozes-Hermitage, France

100% Syrah from 25-year old vines and fermented in cement vats.  Flavors of crushed blackberries and plums with a fine finish.

2003 Jeriko – Syrah – Mendocino, California

Made with 100% organically grown grapes.  The palate is full of vibrant red fruits, white pepper and light toasty oak.  Drink this with a raspberry cheesecake, its delicious!

2004 Paraiso – Syrah – Santa Lucia Highlands, California

California meets Rhone, with hints of white pepper, blackberry and cherry flavors, a finish of vanilla, spice and warm oak.  The winery is certified as practicing sustainable farming.

2004 Silkwood – Syrah – Lodi, California

You’ve enjoyed their Duet.  This well balanced sample of the Syrah grape, lush fruit, acid and tannins that each compliment the other.  Awarded a gold medal in the April 2007 Central California Wine Competition!

Wine #5: A Blind example of Syrah

2006 Teusner – Ebenezer Road Shiraz – Barossa Valley, Australia

Aged for 12 months in oak, this deep colored Shiraz is rich in chocolaty fruit with hints of spice on the nose.  93 points from Robert Parker 08/08.

2005 MacRostie – “Wildcat Mountain Vineyard” Syrah – Sonoma Coast, California

Syrah that was aged for 10 months.  Only the best barrels were selected for this wine.  Dark purple color and aromas of black berry, cocoa, and all spice.  Fantastic Syrah!
