WHO: This year, Neighborhood
Restaurant Group (NRG) is partnering with DC Central Kitchen (DCCK)
for a spectacular “Oktobeerfest” celebration. NRG operates seven
independent and unique dining establishments in Northern Virginia and
Washington DC, as well Planet Wine, Red Apron Butchery and Star Catering.
WHAT: A block party
featuring great food, beverage and live music. NRG will also hold a
raffle giving away several prizes, including weekend getaways and a
1997 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail as the grand prize. The pearl
blue bike has been recently serviced and comes with a windscreen and
saddlebags. 100% of the raffle proceeds will benefit DCCK.
DCCK is a nonprofit organization
that uses its busy kitchen to recover unused food, prepare and deliver
meals to partner social service agencies and train and employ homeless
men and women for the food service industry.
WHEN: Saturday, October
10, 2009, from 12PM – 6PM (rain date: Saturday, October 17)
WHERE: Rustico at 827
Slaters Lane in Alexandria, VA. The non-profit organization viaVélo
will be running bike cabs to and from the Braddock Metro Station, allowing
guests the option of leaving their cars at home. Limited street parking
is available.
WHY: This year’s Oktobeerfest
will feature an exceptional array of early fall foods, such as grilled
bratwurst, sauerkraut, and hand-made pretzels, prepared by each of NRG’s
restaurants, including Rustico, Vermilion, Tallula, Evening Star Cafe,
EatBar, Buzz and the latest NRG establishments Birch & Barley and
Columbia Firehouse. But the star of the show will undoubtedly be the
close to 26 different seasonal beers on draught. NRG Beer Director Greg
Engert has selected beers from some of the best craft brewers, including
Brooklyn Brewery, Left Hand Brewing Company, Bell’s Brewery and Dogfish
Head, to name just a few. Buzz will concoct a few non-alcoholic drinks,
including its famed squeezed-to-order lemonades.
In addition to the raffle,
the event will include live music and a family area in the Buzz parking
lot, complete with moon bounce, face painting, pumpkin decorating and
cookie decorating with NRG’s Executive Pastry Chef Josh Short. The
family area will also have a Bubble Lounge outfitted with sparkling
wine for adults and bubbles for children.
General admission is free for the family but guests can purchase $1 tickets, which can be redeemed for food, drink or raffle tickets. Most food and drink items will be between 3 and 8 tickets.
