This Labor Day take the day off from cooking, too, and stop by Bistro Ten 18, 1018 Amsterdam Avenue, for a fresh, local spin on barbeque—organic heirloom tomato salad, braised barbequed beef shortrib and blueberry shortcake with fresh New Jersey blueberries. Each dish includes fresh ingredients from the local farmers market. The special menu is $28, offered Sunday, September 6 through Wednesday, September 9. Regular menu items are also available.

“Anyone who is celebrating the long weekend in the City should end the summer properly—with a barbeque,” said Bistro Ten 18 owner Craig Skiptunis. “Bistro Ten 18 is the next best thing to a back yard and a grill, and our fresh, local ingredients will make you feel right at home.”

The first Labor Day holiday was first celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882. The Central Labor Union of New York City had created the holiday as a holiday for all working people. Two years later, the organization changed the date from September 5 to the first Monday in September. That same year, Congress adopted an act to designate Labor Day a legal holiday.

Bistro Ten 18 is a neighborhood bistro with an eclectic menu in a wide range of prices.
