Wine OR Wine & Food Event

Wine OR Wine & Food

Greetings Fellow Lab Rats!

Though the
proposed sale of Hummer to Chinese manufacturing firm Tengzhong is expected to meet with some resistance, LaBORatory Night's collaboration with our friends at Chinatopia continues to hum along smoothly and never fails to produce a humdinger of a time.

That's why we'll be returning on August 17th, for another evening of plenteous food, good wine and festive camaraderie as hosts David Chen, Gidget and Chef Kenny promise to pull out all the stops and serve us a varied family style menu of soup, noodles, seafood, beef, chicken rice and... for dessert....ice cream and fried bananas!

Since we've already enjoyed several previous Lab Nights at Chinatopia, we know what's in store... the large round tables will be great for sharing...the revolving
Lazy Susans serve equally well for sending bottles of wine across the table as they do for transporting the heaping portions of steaming, freshly prepared Chinese cuisine.

Of course, we'll also be bringing our own "bagged" wines and the LaBORatory Night Governing Committee is imposing no limitations on the type of wines that you can bring for the evening's festivities. In light of the challenges posed by pairing wine with Chinese cuisine, for this one night, we'll even loosen our restriction on white zinfandel (Who knows? It might turn out to be the perfect match!)

Here are the logistics:

LaBORatory Night (so called for its experimental spirit and pronounced La-BOHR-atory... think Boris Karloff in the old Frankenstein movies) is an ongoing tradition of more than eighteen years, born at the now defunct but never forgotten Biscayne Wine Merchants Bistro in North Miami. Our ragtag crew of intrepid wine drinkers continues to meet about once a month, always on a Monday night, as an alternative to watching Monday Night Football. Our now itinerant gathering is held at a continually evolving roster of dining establishments straddling Dade & Broward counties.

Every person or couple brings a bottle of wine, masked by a paper bag or other wrapper, which they think would be interesting to share with the group during dinner. Unless you thrive on verbal abuse, no white zinfandel, please.

Depending on the group's size and earnestness, sometimes we have a serious discussion and analysis of the wines. More often than not, we just drink them.

Our original ground rules remain - three topics are verboten for discussion on Monday LaBORatory nights - sports, religion and politics. If you feel compelled to raise any of these topics, please come back on Tuesday. All other subjects are fair game.

Guests, spouses and designated drivers are welcome and encouraged. It's about as much fun as you can legally have on a Monday night. Feel free to forward this invitation to your friends so that the circle of LaBORatory Night victims, errr, participants, continues to expand.

If this announcement has been forwarded to you by a friend, and you would like to be notified directly for future LaBORatory Night gatherings, or if you would like to be removed from our distribution list, please email
grapewiz@aol.com

Your support of LaBORatory Night is always greatly appreciated.

Cheers!
