Wine OR Wine & Food

Join us for our first Select Tasters Event which will be held on Friday, August 7th at our home, 572 S. Kensington Road in Orange and, of course, we are holding a spot for you and guest(s). We are excited to be featuring an international assortment of wines that go great with Hot Summer Days and Outdoor Barbeques. The list includes:

-          A white Bordeaux Blend from Napa

-          A white Sauvignon Blanc from Chile

-          An easy drinking Beaujolais from France

-          A wonderful blended Red wine from Italy

-          A full flavored Petite Sirah from California

-          A mystery red wine for all to guess…

See the attached list of award wining wines and tasting notes.

The gathering kicks off our Select Tasters Club. A unique way to order wine, "taste before you buy"! It is a quarterly gathering to taste and savor wines of the world. Come and enjoy the festivities, hors devours, wine and lots of friendly cheer. Doors open at 7:00. If you already have plans for the evening, no biggie, come by, taste the wines, and let us know your wishes. If, on the other hand, you prefer to stay, we will be here all night.

RSVP this weekend, so we know how much wine to order.

We look forward to hearing from you soon,

WINES BEING POURED DURING SELECT TASTING EVENT, 7 AUGUST 2009:

NAP954 - 2006 Whitehall Lane Winery & Vineyards, Sauvignon Blanc-Semillon, Napa Valley, California

Country: Domestic - Varietal/Type: Bordeaux Blend - White - Price: $17.99

Tasting Notes: This blend of 62% Sauvignon Blanc, 38% Semillon is a vibrant offering with aromas of grapefruit melon and hints of peach. It is light to medium bodied and delivers rich and refreshing citrus flavors and excellent balance with the extra spice of oak and a full finish that comes with the additional Semillon in the blend.

2008 World Wine Championships, bronze, recommended

CHI116 - 2007 Casas Patronales, Maule Valley Sauvignon Blanc, Chile

Country: Chile - Varietal/Type: Sauvignon Blanc - Price: $14.99

Tasting Notes: Although Chile made its reputation on bargain Cabernets and Chardonnays, its greatest grape may turn out to be the noble Sauvignon Blanc. Bright yellow grass in color, this wine shows a very intense and complex nose with notes of passion fruit and lemon typical of the Sauvignon Blanc grape. The palate is concentrated, powerful and fresh with a nice balance of flavors and a long clean finish.

Wine Enthusiast magazine "Best Buys" This is a step up from previous efforts for this winery. This Sauvignon Blanc shows enticing aromas of lemon pastry, melon and vanilla. The palate is plush but still fresh with white peach and apple flavors. Good length and balance.

BJL103 - 2006 Bellecourt, Chenas, Beaujolais, France

Country: - Varietal/Type: Gamay - Price: $17.99

Tasting Notes: Sun-kissed, fresh and fruity, just the way you like your Beaujolais. This is not Nouveau. This is serious Beaujolais from Chénas, possibly the best dirt in the region. It offers subtle aromas of roses and peonies with cinnamon-laced jammy flavors. Dark ruby red in color, this wine, derived from 100% Gamay offers subtle aromas of roses and peonies along with cooked peaches and plums. The effect is that of jam laced with cinnamon and cumin spices. A fresh, very well-balanced wine with good acidity at the end, finishing with notes of licorice and noble wood. Serve cool to the touch, but not cold, and fruit and spice flavors will develop in the mouth.

Silver, 2008 Finger Lakes International Wine Competition,

ITA665 - 2003 Messapicus, Salice Salentino Riserva, Puglia, Italy

Country: Italy - Varietal/Type: Other Red Varietals - Price: $19.99

Tasting Notes: Made from 80% Negroamaro, 20% Malvasia Nera. This is a red with an intense leathery, spicy aroma. Full-bodied, dry and robust yet smooth with a ripe fruity flavor and a warm finish.

Gold, 2008 Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition

CAL887 - 2006 Tria, Petite Sirah, California

Country: Domestic - Varietal/Type: Petit Syrah - Price: $19.99

Tasting Notes: Petite or Dainty are not the words you'd use to describe this Petite Sirah! Often thought of as blending material used for strengthening reds rather than a stand alone varietal, Petite Sirah is a grape that is coming into its own. This classically crafted California release offers bold red fruits with a distinctive black pepper quality. Barrel aged for 18 months in new French and American oak barrels, the nose exhibits loads of seductive cassis, chocolate and mint aromas. These flavors are repeated on the palate with added characteristics of black cherry and creamy vanilla from the French oak extraction followed by bold tannins and more oak to round out the mouth. Great balance between power and structure.

This little wine scored BIG!
