Trevisiol, Rosecco Brut     $17
Where: Veneto, Italy
Grape: Blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay
Besides it is a home of Romeo and Juliet, Italian wine region of Veneto is also a home of Prosecco, which is a well-known Italian wine made from Prosecco grape. Although about 5% of still wine is made under the name of Prosecco, the majority is made into sparkling through the Charmat method, where the second fermentation takes place in stainless steel tank to create its bubbles. A Prosecco producer of Trevisiol makes this wine in a same way as Prosecco is made but since it is made from a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, it can not be called Prosecco and that is how creative people at the Trevisiol came up with the name "Rosecco". Showing off charming salmon pink color, this bubbly has fresh and lively fruit of red berries and nectarine accompanied by bright acidity and gentle bubbles.
 
2008 Benvolio, Pinot Grigio   $11
Where: Friuli, Italy
Grape: Pinot Grigio
Fuller, rounder, nuttier and more expressive are the general description of Pinot Grigio from the region of Friuli. According to Burton Anderson's The Wine Atlas of Italy, the name Friuli is derived from the Latin Forum Julii, now the city of Cividale, in the renowned eastern wine district of Colli Orientali. Bordering Austria and Slovenia, with the Adriatic Sea on the side, Friuli has built great reputation for white wines made from both native and international varieties. Benvolio Pinot Grigio shows intriguing aromas of lychee and delicate wild flowers, followed by pear and citrus fruit on the palate. Medium-bodied Pinot Grigio partnered with refreshing acidity, this would be a fantastic companion for casual Italian summer meals.
 
2006 Cambria, Chardonnay, 'Katherine's Vineyard'   $18
Where: Santa Maria Valley, California, USA
As a young man, the founder of Kendall-Jackson Empire, Jess Jackson worked as a policeman while studying Law at UC Berkeley. Then as a lawyer, working for the state specializing in real-estate law, he learned how and where to purchase land in the wine country of California. In 1986, the magnificent beauty and stunning fruit quality of the Santa Maria Bench caught eyes of the Jackson family. In honor of family heritage, they named it "Cambria", the Roman word for Wales. Aged 6 months in a combination of French and American oak, this wine displays fruit of citrus, apple, peach with hints of vanilla, complemented by balanced acidity and a touch of sweet oak spice in the lingering finish. Soft and rich texture of this wine would make delicious pairings with lobster, crab, scallops, and chicken.  
 
2007 Sanguineti Chianti DOCG     $12
Where: Chianti, Tuscany, Italy
Grape: Blend of 75% Sangiovese, 10% Canaiolo, 10% Ciliegiolo and 5% Colorino

2005 Kinton, Syrah    $20
Where: Santa Barbara, California, USA
Grape: Syrah
"Flying winemaker" is a term used to describe a winemaker who travels across the globe to directly supervise viticulture and vinification in several countries. Young Australian winemaker, Peter Fraiser, is one such winemaker responsible for crafting Kinton Syrah. When he is not in California, he is in McLaren Vale, Australia, making Grenache, Shiraz and Chardonnay for the Yangarra Estate. Since there is 6 months "time difference" for the harvest in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere, Peter works twice as hard. Offering concentrated fruit of ripe blackberry, blueberry, along with hints of fig, spice and balanced acidity, this is a first-rate Syrah with a personality. Since we are also showing Peter's Shiraz from Australia for the line-up, this is a great opportunity to taste and compare his Syrah/ Shiraz from Northern and Southern Hemisphere and see how the same grape in the same hand can express such different personalities.
 
2006 Yangarra Estate, Shiraz     $20
Where: McLaren Vale, Australia
        
McLaren Vale was one of the first developed wine areas in South Australia, where Europeans began to settle and plant vines in the mid 1800's. With warm summers and mild winters, the climate here is often referred to as Mediterranean. Although the region is small, a range of microclimates allows growth of wide varieties of different grapes. "Yangarra" means "from the earth" in an Aboriginal dialect and Yangarra Estate specializes in wines of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre. A finalist in the Australian Wine Society Young Winemaker of the Year 2003, Peter Fraser's philosophy is that less is about the actual winemaking and more is about the vineyard. His goal is to craft wines that are expressive of the place from which they come from. This Aussie spent 18 months in a combination of French (85%) and American (15%) oak, showing full-flavored black fruits along with hints of vanilla, dark chocolate and a pinch of spice.
