Wine OR Wine & Food

“FRESH” IS THE KEY WORD FOR 26 WINERIES OFFERING THEIR NEW WINES AT JERSEY FRESH FOOD & WINE FESTIVAL AUG. 9 & 10

The Jersey Fresh Food & Wine Festival, featuring hundreds of award-winning New Jersey wines and great regional bands will be held Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 8 and 9, from noon to 5 p.m. at Heritage Vineyards in Richwood.

More than 26 New Jersey wineries will showcase their wines at the event, sponsored by the Garden State Wine Growers Association. The state’s Jersey Fresh program will also be displaying an array of gourmet, fresh food and produce from the Garden State. The festival will be held at Heritage Vineyards, a picturesque winery in the heart of New Jersey’s farmland in Gloucester County.  The Association’s major partners for the event are SLOW Foods of NJ, an organization of restaurants in the state that encourages slow eating and fine food over fast food and Jersey Fresh, the state-supported program that promotes New Jersey farms, produce markets, restaurants and supermarkets that carry produce and other products from the Garden State.

The festival also features live entertainment Saturday and Sunday. Saturday, Almost Fab, a band that performs the songs the Beatles made famous, will be performing, playing Beatle music from every era of the Fab Four’s career. Sunday, blues guitarist Mike Dugan and the Blues Mission will be performing. Dugan and his band have taken the influences of the region known as the Rust Belt and created their own style of blues. Formed in the early 1990's, Mike and the Blues Mission have toured the East Coast playing a variety of festivals and clubs building a loyal audience and sharing the stage with many blues legends.

Wineries throughout the state from as far north as Sussex County and as far south as Cape May will be offering an opportunity to sample more than 200 wines. Entry price for the tasting is $20 a person. Discount tickets can be purchased for $18 a person over the age of 21 by going to the Garden State Wine Growers Association website at www.newjerseywines.com
