Oregon wines this week at Khoury’s Fine Wine & Spirits

Wednesday (7/15/09) 6-8pm at Khoury’s on S. Durango

Thursday (7/16/09) 6-8pm at Khoury’s on S. Eastern

We will have a chance to taste wines from two of the biggest names in the Oregon wine industry, Panther Creek Winery and Benton Lane Winery.  Benton Lane’s first wine was the 1992 vintage, back when they made only Pinot Noir.  Today the winery has grown to 20,000 cases and has two wines earn the honor of being on Wine Spectator and Wine & Spirits magazine Top 100.  we will have a chance to taste Benton Lane’s Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris.

Created in 1986 by wine legend Ken Wright, Panther Creek produces some of the most age-worthy Pinot Noirs coming out of Oregon. The wine critic Robert Parker goes on to say,”Panther Creek has established itself as one of the most consistent, high quality Oregon wineries”.   We will taste the Panther Creek Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir, the Panther Creek Elton Chardonnay which they only produced 567 cases of, and the new cuvee from Panther Creek which costs under $20.  A great deal coming from a legendary winery!

Specials at Khoury’s Fine Wine & Spirits

2006 Benton Lane Pinot Gris…………………………………On Special $11.99

This pale straw colored Pinot Gris has generous floral, pear and tropical fruit aromas. This comes from pressing the whole grape clusters instead of individual grapes minimizing skin contact and extenuating the delicate floral flavors. The wine is easy to love because it is balanced beautifully and shows zesty citrus and granny smith apple flavors that lead to a lingering Asian pear finish.

2004 Corte Riva Merlot……………………………………. On Special $19.99

Rated 91 pts by Robert Parker, Wine Advocate. Aged for 18 months in French Oak barrels, 75% new, with a blend of Kenefic Ranch and Blackbird Vineyards, creates a medium dark ruby Merlot. It opens with a dense aroma of cedar cassis, black cherry and blackberry with a long powerful finish of coffee and dark chocolate. This huge expressive Merlot has good structure, supple integrated oak and great balance.

This wine sells for $50 at the winery!!!

2004 Corte Riva Cabernet Sauvignon…………..……………On Special $25.99

Rated 89+ pts by Robert Parker, Wine Advocate. A dark ruby color, this Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for 18 months in French Oak barrels, 75% new. This well balanced wine has great structure. It is full bodied, yet elegant and refined. It has an intense nose of blackberry and black cherry, dark chocolate and sweet integrated oak. The flavors continue through the mid palate with the addition of spice and fine soft tannin. Available in large format. This wine sells for $60 at the winery!!!
