Pop's Wine and Spirits in Island Park will be hosting a free wine tasting event on Saturday, July 11, from 11:30am to 3:00pm featuring a Santa Florentina Torrontes produced by La Riojana, one of Argentina's largest wineries located in the Famatina Valley. Known as a refreshing white wine that is perfect for summer sipping, Torrontes is also being touted by many as the next Pinot Grigio given its broad appeal and refreshing finish. When you think of popular white wines to drink during the hot summer months, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc often come to mind, but Torrontes is just as refreshing and has similar characteristics, said Ashley Mancill of Pop's Wines & Spirits. The Santa Florentina 2008, produced by La Riojana, is a perfect Torrontes to try for first-timers, and of course all wine-lovers out there. A grape varietal indigenous to Argentina, this wine mimics the Spanish Albarino grape style, but at a lesser price point according to my colleague Michael. And Further, not only is this wine ridiculously affordable, but it has more flavor in one small glass than any other white from a warmer climate. I definitely recommend this wine to anyone who would like to try something new. For those summer barbecues coming up, trips to the beach, or just for sipping on a gorgeous hot day, raise a glass and toast to the Torrontes of Argentina!" - Ashley Mancill, Wine Consultant, Pop's Wines & Spirits, April, 2009 Pops is located at 256 Long Beach Road in Island Park, NY. For more information please call 516-431-0025. |
