September 26 - Grow, Cook, Eat 2009!
We had such a great success with this event in 2008 that we will have another festival on Saturday September 26, 2009. So hold that date as we make our plans to bring you a wonderful culinary festival featuring the best of our fresh and local products.
The first annual Grow! Cook! Eat! Festival was held at the Center on Warwoman. Eleven Rabun County restaurants paired with local growers/producers to present fresh and local foods. In addition, several local growers brought products to sample and buy. The event was sold out. Most of the restaurants donated their time and ingredients but all the farmers were paid for their produce. A raffle provided opportunities to win professional chef cookware, gift product baskets, dinner tickets, and other culinary items. The event included educational modules for a healthy diet and lifestyle, information on organic cultivation, recipes, and live music and games. In addition Dr. Craig Miller, Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resource, UGA/Athens brought his graduate students to meet with local farmers/growers for their upcoming survey of agritourism sites in Rabun County. So, whether you would like to volunteer to participate, or just want to attend and sample some wonderful foods and wines - save the date.
