Nero d’Avola of Sicily
Saturday, January 6th
Trapp Family Lodge Wine Cellar
Ah Italy.
How pleasant to think of those warm climes and warm people as the temperature drops and drops yet further here in the hard north.
I still remember fondly those many Italian taverns where the proprietor’s daughter would fill a generic wine bottle from the cask at the rear of the restaurant, drop it at my table with an empty juice glass then charge me at the end of my meal for the amount I drank from the bottle, the rest returning to the cask. Such was southern Italy.
Nero d’Avola, a.k.a. Calabrese, is Sicily’s best known red grape, typically high in sugar, this can mean higher alcohol wines. They can be rustic and pleasant both.
Price is $20. Please call or see the front desk to place reservations. 802 253-5742. Doors open @ 4:00. I suggest you arrive no later than 5:00 to avoid feeling rushed. People come and go during the tasting which is an informal walk around format. We end at 6:00
