Q. How can I advertise on your site?
A. I am no longer directly offering ads on LocalWineEvents.com. Trying to manage advertising in-house and run the site at the same time, as been a major pain. I am offering advertising only through third-party, (Google, Miva, Yahoo, etc) from now on.
Google allows advertisers to specify exactly which sites they wish their ads to run on. If you have (or open) a Google Adwords account, choose to advertise by CPM (vs. CPC) and use keyword “wine” you will see LocalWineEvents.com along with many others that you can choose for your advertising.
Another option for my “Classifieds” section is Miva (used to be FindWhat). From a cost standpoint, they may be a good choice.
You can check them out here.
Thanks for your interest. I hope that helps.
Q. Our organization is doing a wine tasting event. Can you help?
A. It's likely that I can put you in contact with wine folks in your local market who would be interested in helping you organize a private wine tasting event. My contacts differ for any given area and can range from professional Wine Educators who will have to be paid to local Retailers whose interest may be primarily to sell wine and/or Wholesale and Supplier representatives who want to expose your group to certain wines that they represent. In your initial request, I will forward the information you send me to the contacts I have in that area and then will send you the contact information of those who might be able to help. I need to know some basic information;
1. How many people.
2. The dates you have in mind.
3. The location and type of venue, i.e.. Private house or corporate office, etc.
Q. Can I help at one of your events?
A. LocalWineEvents.com is simply a place where people and businesses doing events can post them. We are not involved in the events themselves. You should use the contact info in the posting to see if the events hosts could use your help.
Q. There are tastings coming up that are not on your calendar. Why?
A. LocalWineEvents.com is designed so that folks doing the events can post the details themselves. That is why it's free. If you know of events going on in your area that should be on the calendar, please let them know about LocalWineEvents.com. If you have an email or website address, I will be happy to let them know.
Q. How does Orville get all those kernels to pop?
A. Since popcorn pops when the moisture inside the kernel gets hot enough to turn to steam, my guess is that Orville Redenbacher has developed a way to determine the moisture content of the kernels, most likely by weight, in order to have a higher percentage of popped kernels. He probably separates out the heavier corn for sell. But what do I know about popcorn?
Q. Can I just email you my events or can you take them from my newsletter?
A. Yes and no. Just sending the events, a newsletter or a Press Release to me is not going to get them on the calendar (See above). However, I do have an "email submission" system in place that allows for events to be posted from an email. It requires "tags" to identify the proper information in the email so that the system can put it in the right place. There is more info on this system here,
http://localwineevents.com/events/event_email.php and I will be happy to explain how you can write your newsletter in a format whereby my system can pick out the proper info and get it posted without you having to re-type it.
Q. If I know of events going on can I post them to your site?
A. Yes, please do. As long as they are food, wine, spirits or beer related events, they are welcome. There are broad submission guidelines posted here,
www.LocalWineEvents.com/events/event_guidelines.php.
Q. I hate my job. How can I work in the wine business?
A. The first thing to realize is that entry level into the wine business is not typically a high paying position.
If you are currently making a good paycheck, chances are that you are going to have to accept an initial pay cut. The simple
reason is that there are far more people who want a job in the wine business than there are jobs in the wine business.
I'm going to generalize here because there are always exceptions. The majority of jobs in the wine business are filled
rather quickly from within the local markets. Most of the job openings are at the wholesale level and the first line
of "qualified" and available people are from the local Restaurants or Wine Shops. The higher-level jobs of Supplier or
Marketing Reps or Vineyard/Winery Reps are almost always filled from the local Wholesalers. Again, there are many exceptions.
I know of people who jumped right into a high paying Supplier level positions and some from outside of the wine industry
completely. Having said that, here is my suggestion.
In order to find out about the jobs that do come up, you need to tap into the wholesale side of the business. The best way
to do that is to work either full or part-time in a fine wine shop. You get two key benefits. You should have an opportunity to
taste wine samples brought in by the wholesale reps, some of which you may not otherwise have a chance to taste. And, you can
develop connections into the wine business. Along with that should also come opportunities to attend "trade-only" tastings put
on by the Wholesalers and Suppliers in your market. Then just get out there and network furiously.
Find out who the wine Managers are and contact them. Be persistent and aggressive in your pursuit of a job. Managers
like to know that you really want the position, that you're “hungry” for it. Do not get annoying; just don't take “no” lightly.
Be aware that the last three months of the year are the biggest in this industry and Managers are hesitant to make major changes
during this time if they can help it. It's a good time to establish contacts, but don't expect to be hired until after the first
of the year.
Good luck, and wherever you are, spread word of LocalWineEvents.com.
Q.How many people visit your site?

Q.How many people receive notification of new events?
A. Currently 98570 with between 20 and 30 new
signs-ups per day.
