| Friday is the 4th of July, starts a 3 day weekend, and grills will be smokin' ! For the Cellar's regular end-of-the-week tasting, Mike will be pouring six wines that are eminently qualified to go with anything you plop on the "barbie." The strong, robust flavors found in most barbecued foods require wines that will match the food's "gutsiness." When selecting wines for barbecue, think BIG, BOLD, and QUAFFABLE ! White, pink, or red, the wines should be big - full bodied and have plenty of fruit extract. The wines should be bold - assertive forward fruit flavor(s) and spice along with good acidity. The wines should be quaffable - smooth, delicious, east to drink, down right "gulpable." Whether it's a spicy Gewurztraminer, an off-dry Reisling, a dry rose, a fruity Spanish Grenache, an Aussie Shiraz, or an all-American red Zinfandel "fruit bomb", one of the six and many others "stored in the Cellar" are guaranteed to go perfectly with your cookout and please family and friends alike. A secret - three things to stay away from with barbecue wines, however, are oak, tannins, and high alcohol content ! Save those wines for Winter or the air conditioned comfort of an oven and stove prepared meal replete with white tablecloth, candles, and cloth napkins. Oh - and it's o.k. to dish the fine crystal for your cookout, too. Plastic cups are just fine but avoid Styrofoam - all you'll taste is wine-scented Styrofoam ! Anyway ... drop by and taste for yourself why these six wine varietals and particular styles and/or others Mike may have in mind make such great if not altogether perfect "barbecue wines !" See ya there ! | | | More Info: Old Town Wine Cellar | Please tell them you found this event on LocalWineEvents.com
