LEARN FRENCH WINE BASICS!

French wines can be perplexing - confusing labels, unlisted wine varietals
and mysterious Chateaux. Join TasteDC and our highly qualified speaker Kirby Pope,
(Please see his Bio below), as we taste and learn the simple rules to
understanding French wine. We will cover in this class many famous wine regions
such as Bordeaux, Burgundy, Loire Valley and the Rhone and cover the following basics:
-The major wine regions of France,
-The exclusive wine varietals of each Appellation,
-Decoding the French Wine Label,
-Wine and food pairing, from a Sommelier's point of view,
-The best producers and where to find their wines in our area,
-Secrets to ordering French wines from a restaurant wine list.
You will taste from 6 to 8 wines in this class
Please note: no prior wine knowledge is required for this event.
Bread, crackers and cheese will be served with the wines as palate cleansers only.
Our speaker for our Series of French Wine Classes is Kirby Pope, a Sommelier
and Wine Educator with over 30 years of experience in all aspects of wine and
service in the food service industry. Graduating from the University of Hawaii,
Kirby's experience in the wine industry began at Nick's Fishmarket and has
included wine program development at restaurants around the U.S. His most
recent Sommelier positions include acting as the Head Sommelier at Sam and Harry's
in Tyson's Corner, Virginia and more recently at the Rattlesnake Club in
Detroit, Michigan. From simple country wines to top Classified Bordeaux,
Kirby has poured and tasted thousands of wine selections in his Sommelier career!
