| The Wine Professional Certificate is a unique, 16-week program that is offered through Saint Paul College (a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities) – a specialized professional development opportunity for those in the hospitality industry, or for the serious wine enthusiast. Our next start is Spring 2009, beginning January 12. Plan now to attend, as there are a limited number of seats available - registration begins November 2008.
The certificate consists of five classes (total of 9 credits) that are taken concurrently, so the program can be completed in one 16-week semester. I invite you to request electronic documents, or you may access this information directly at:
http://www.saintpaul.edu/academics/programs/HealthandServices/CulWineProf/index.aspx
The lab aspect (wine tasting, food pairing, professional service) of the curriculum will be delivered Monday evenings on campus (5 - 10PM), with the lecture/academic content (study questions and quizzes) delivered through an on-line format. Students also produce three capstone projects (wine marketing portfolio, wine list, winemaker’s dinner menu) that are focused on their particular area of interest, and which help support future employment opportunities. Former graduates have also been able to transfer the 9 credits to a 4-year university, to be applied toward a Hospitality Bachelor of Science degree.
See www.saintpaul.edu for the admissions process (prospective students). You may fill out the PFD application form and fax, mail or present it to the Registration office. Tuition for the 9 credits for Fall 2008 was approximately $1407.22 (includes fee for wine), plus about $150 for the text and tasting glasses.
We always have a great group of people, from many aspects of the industry, plus some serious wine enthusiasts – great for networking. Contact Gail Balego, 651.846.1492 or gail.balego@saintpaul.edu with any other questions you may have.
