Penfolds’ Global Wine Educator to Offer One-Of-A-Kind Experience for Tampa Wine Enthusiasts
TAMPA, Fla., (July 8, 2008) - Gallagher’s Steakhouse is pleased to announce its Ultra Premium Wine Dinner & Silent Auction on Friday, July 18, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. Presented in partnership with Penfolds winery the five-course dinner will be prepared by the restaurant’s culinary team lead by Ryan Smith and will offer a unique tasting opportunity. A limited number of guests will enjoy a prix fixe menu, each course perfectly paired with rarely imported Australian boutique wines and hand-selected by Penfolds’ global wine educator, Matthew Lane. In addition, a silent auction will include several hard-to-find back vintages of Grange, RWT, Bin 60A, Block 42 and Yattarna Chardonnay.

Matthew Lane’s profession in wine blossomed at Penfolds’ prestigious Magill Estate restaurant in Adelaide, South Australia, where he served as head sommelier and senior wine educator for more than four years before relocating to the United States in 2003. He has been involved in widespread sensory tasting, winemaking, testing and training with top winemakers from Foster’s in Australia & the United States, working particularly with Penfolds’ vintages and also internationally in France with champagne. He is currently in his final stages of Enology and Viticulture 3 at the University of California, Davis.
This world-renowned food and wine expert also serves as a guest wine, food and sensory-lecturer at the University of Adelaide—arguably one of Australia’s top wine training colleges and has also worked as a guest Sommelier at Charlie Trotter’s restaurant in Chicago, the exclusive Lanesborough Hotel in London, the luxurious Palazzo Versace resort in Australia and was recently surrendered his Sommelier duties to lecture at Harvard University. After two years of development, Lane launched Foster's online wine education program known as Wine Edge, which has quickly been noted by contemporaries as "one of the most authoritative and comprehensive Australian online wine course's ever created."
The Gallagher’s Steakhouse Ultra Premium Wine Dinner & Silent Auction will take place in the restaurant’s private dining area and seating is available at a cost of $300 per person, excluding tax and gratuities.
