"“A dream” murmur fans about this “romantic” Eastlaker with “fabulous”, “rustic” Italian eats that are “simple”, “fresh and seasonal”; “joyfully noisy on most nights”, the “delightful”, candlelit environs, built circa 1920, have a “neighborhood enoteca”-like feel, and there’s “live music” on weekends plus a “garden patio” that’s “probably the best reason to come” “on warm summer evenings.”" - Zagat.com
"There continues to be a pleasant bustle about Serafina, a dimly lit, comfortable bistro that's regularly filled with an eclectic group drawn from the surrounding Eastlake environs. A mural suggesting an Italian piazza exactly suits the mood of the dining room, where white butcher paper covers the linen tablecloths and live music is played most nights. Service can be brusque on busy nights, and sometimes favorites---such as lamb---arrive cooked considerably beyond the requested rare. Still, such missteps are fairly rare, and the kitchen typically makes excellent use of the fresh fish and produce that is the calling card of the region. Salads are always a treat, perfectly dressed and made with tender lettuce. A first course of raw oysters on the half shell, followed by a pasta with trumpet mushrooms, delivers the essence of ocean and earth in a one-two punch that knocks us out. Ravioli is especially good when stuffed with squash and ricotta, garnished with toasted hazelnuts and sauced lightly in brown butter (another version features asparagus and Fontina). Leave room for the house-made dolci." - Gayot.com |
