| Kristie with Valley of the Sun Distributing is bringing Aussie wines that are all under $16.00 and are all rated over 90pts. Heading the line-up is Marquis Phillips’ Holly’s Blend. 100% Verdelho, 30% of which was barrel fermented, exhibits aromas of honeysuckle and tropical fruit as well as oodles of personality. Robert Parker gave it 90pts. Trevor Jones Boots Chardonnay also rated at 90 points will come second in the line-up. This is a virgin chardonnay, which means that it is untouched by any oak influence. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and the result is a fresh, elegant wine, with great depth of rich ripe fruit, redolent of stonefruit, peaches and lychees. There is an underlying richness provided by the time spent on lees, combined with subtle complexity of the malolactic ferment component. Two more highly rated Marquis Phillips wines will follow, the Sarah’s Blend & the Roogle Red. Sarah’s blend, a mixture of Shiraz, Cabernet, and Merlot received 91pts. This wine is complex and lifted with a wild berry, savoury nose. The palate is layered with earthy, herbaceous flavours and rich plum and raisin fruits. With a firm structure, it is a powerful harmonious blend. The Roogle Red is consistent with the Marquis Phillips “house”style, it is a well structured & balanced wine, displaying opulent, velvety tannins. The Shiraz (80%) provides ripeness while the Cabernet (20%) gives a firm tannin backbone. Highly acclaimed winemaker Chris Ringland’s wine Strong Arm Shiraz 91pts, will finish the tasting. This Shiraz is composed of 46% McLaren Vale, 44% Riverland, and 10% Barossa Valley fruit. It was aged in seasoned French and American Oak for 12 Months. Opaque purple-colored, it has a nose of cedar, spice box, and blueberry. Fruit-driven, supple-textured, rich, and easygoing, the wine has remarkable class for its giveaway price.
