2005 SHAW AND SMITH SAUVIGNON BLANC, ADELAIDE HILLS
90 points, Wine Spectator
Bright and juicy, with a sense of refinement to the otherwise lively lime, pear and delicate herb flavors that linger nicely. Drink now. 20,000 cases made. –HS
2006 YANGARRA ESTATE CHARDONNAY, McLAREN VALE
This is quite surprising for its richness and depth of fruit. When you try it you will be surprised at its weight and richness because it saw no wood or was given zero malo-lactic fermentation. It gets its character from perfectly ripened grapes and some lees stirring, resulting in a wine with a creamy texture and roundness in the palate yet with bright and lifted fruits, and good acidity that gives it well defined length and definition. This has a lot of food diversity due to its acidity and has the richness to really make those who want a full flavored chardonnay but not the palate fatiguing oak and butter take note. Impressive effort for its palate presence and clean, lingering finish.
2005 SHAW AND SMITH M3 VINEYARD CHARDONNAY, ADELAIDE HILLS
91 points, Wine Spectator
Bright and juicy, a lively mouthful of lemon, star fruit and subtle spices, lingering on the exuberant finish. Drink now through 2010. 3,000 cases made. –HS
2005 YANGARRA ESTATE CADENZIA, McLAREN VALE
Another winner from the 2005 stellar vintage, this estate grown wine is composed of 47% Grenache, 41% Shiraz, and 12% Mouvedre representing a classic Rhone varietal Aussie blend. It’s an exceptionally smooth wine with lush dark fruits, succulent chocolate and cherry/plum over-tones with a long, somewhat spicy finish. You can taste the care and quality that went into making it, as it’s on yet an even higher-level than others of the vintage. It’s a wine for immediate pleasure or cellar for 1-5 years. Either way, you will be delighted with the wonderful mouth-feel and generous fruit flavors that will match with almost any grilled meat.
2006 MITOLO JESTER SHIRAZ, McLAREN VALE
Dense purple color and an almost black appearance. Dark chocolate, anise and allspice dominate the nose, supported by hints of French oak, cherries and coffee. A fresh and juicy mid-palate shrouds tannin and length. The wine has flavors of fresh cut plums and licorice with hints of blackberry and espresso. A long and lingering finish.
