Australia is a big place and its wine regions are fairly diverse. That is why it is hard to say there is ‘one style’ of Australian Shiraz, aka Syrah, even though big jammy and oaky wines seem to have created the image. The wines from southern Victoria are often very spicy and Rhône-like while the Shiraz from Western Australia often have structure and blackberry fruit to counter the image of the big Barossa wines. At any rate, there is diversity and it is worth taking a few sips.
