| Event Tasting with Mario Perelli-Minetti Winery
2007 Mario Perelli-Minetti Chardonnay
This is not a cocktail wine and it is not sweet. It is lean and crisp, produced 50% from Chardonnay grapes grown in the Oak Knoll district in Napa Valley and 50% grown in the Oakville district, made in the style of the fine French white Burgundies. This wine was produced in a stainless steel tank and aged on the lees. This wine creates soft earthy tones in the nose, with a crisp complexity of vibrant white peaches, pears and fuji apples upon first taste, with a brilliantly clean finish. A straw yellow hue with the clarity of a fine diamond. This wine is made for food. 500 cases were produced.
2006 Mario Perelli-Minetti Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
A flawless example of why Sonoma Coast is the perfect climate for Pinot Noir. Well structured with acid and tannins, this wine exhibits earthy tea tones and soft sweet leather spices, balanced with an abundance of dried strawberries and black cherries. Aged in 30% new French oak and the remainder in used French oak. Medium bodied mouth feel. 304 cases were produced.
2005 Mario Perelli-Minetti Cabernet Sauvignon
This wine was created from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon fruit from the hills of Napa Valley, 75% from Conn Valley, behind Howell Mountain, and 25% from Atlas Peak. Combined together this fruit creates a rich and well-balanced wine with soft nuances of chocolate, fresh berries, and a sweet vanilla spice. This wine was aged for 20 months in 40% new American oak barrels and the remainder used French oak. This is a beautiful wine with layers of oak and soft tannins. 900 cases produced. This by far is our best value wine, you cant go wrong with this Cab. --Andrew Perelli-Minetti
2002 MPM Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve
This wine was created form 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown in a single vineyard in Atlas Peak, the southeast hills of Napa Valley. This wine was aged for 30 months in new French oak barrels. This wine exhibits characteristics of plums and berry jam, hints of vanilla spice and chocolate.Well balanced with tannins, sweet French oak and fruit I would compare this wine to any cult wine any day. Only 475 cases were produced.
2001 Miriam Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
This fruit was produced at the foothills of Atlas Peak, at an elevation of 1600 feet in the Southern district of the Napa Valley. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was aged in new French oak barrels for 34 months. This wine is deep and richly concentrated with many layers of currents, and dark berries. A long full-bodied finish that coats the mouth with soft tannins, sweet vanilla oak and herbal spice. 270 cases were produced. This is a world class wine at a value price.
History
In 1902 the Perelli-Minetti family began their California winemaking legacy when Antonio Perelli-Minetti arrived in Sonoma County. Antonio was one of Californias first educated winemakers with a degree from The Royal Institute of Viticulture and Enology in Conegliano, Italy. He went on to become one of California largest winemakers, producing over 200 different brands for different wineries with the production capacity of 14 million gallons, of which 5 million gallons were brandy.
Today, at the youthful age of 98, the first son of Antonio, Mario Perelli-Minetti, carries on this palate crafted winemaking legacy. With a total case production of approximately 4,000 to 5,000 cases a year the Mario Perelli-Minetti Winery makes small lots of wine focusing on tradition and quality. With help from his grandson Andrew, Mario sells his wine through a wine club and as wholesaler in San Francisco and the greater bay area.
