Event Details

bacar Restaurant, known as “San Francisco’s quintessential wine haven,” offering seasonal Northern California cuisine with Mediterranean influences, will host Abe Schoener of the Scholium Project, to pour and discuss his wines over a five-course dinner on Tuesday, July 22, at 6:30 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to meet Schoener and taste 9 of his wines, including his Scholium Project Gemella ‘Last Slough Vineyard’ 2007, Scholium Project The Prince and His Caves ‘Farina Vineyards’ 2006 and Scholium Project Scheria ‘Hudson Vineyards’ 2002, while enjoying a dinner prepared by Executive Chef Robbie Lewis, such as Tartare of Sierra Mackerel; Liberty Farms Duck Breast with red wine braised fennel, smokes bacon and blackberries; and Chicory Braised Beef Cheeks with smoked potato gnocchi and black mission figs.

Schoener got his start in the wine business with John Kongsgaard and ventured on his own in 2001. Based out of Napa Valley, Abe sources fruit for the project from vineyards all over the state of California. Inspired by such Friulian and Slovenian producers as Josko Gravner and Stanislao Radikon, Schoener, a philosophy professor turned winemaker, is making California wines that are not-so-California.
