Franciacorta, a wine zone in Lombardia famed for its méthode champenoise sparkling wines, is Italy’s answer to champagne. The name “Franciacorta” even roughly translates to “little France”. And Italians love their franciacorta bollicine (bubbles) –the first Italian sparkling wine to receive the DOCG classification, Franciacorta is also the sole wine for which the geographical name is used without further designation. the only other such sparkling wine is Champagne.
