John & Brigid are the real deal - a family winery still owned and operated by the same family that has been in Marlborough for generations. Marlborough's signature grape variety, sauvignon blanc, is renowned for its intensity, which John has balanced with an equal emphasis on complexity in his own, much-acclaimed Forrest Estate Sauvignon Blanc since 1991.
With a professional background in biomedical research, Dr. Forrest brings to winemaking the discipline of a scientist and combines it with his own exuberant personality and artistic flair; the blend of art and science so necessary to make great wine. The result of John’s passion is an enviable reputation for his intensely flavored, appetizingly crisp, delicate white wines and perfumed, richly-flavored reds.
In addition to their Marlborough wines John and Brigid have established partnerships to create the Cornerstone Vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels region of Hawkes Bay, famous for its Bordeaux reds and syrah, and new plantings of pinot noir in Central Otago, and pinot noir and pinot gris in the Waitaki Valley of North Otago. With their very “hands on” approach to winemaking, family farming heritage and their technical skills as scientists, John and Brigid bring to Forrest Estate their own unique philosophy. They now produce one of the widest ranges of aromatic wines in Marlborough, an award-winning showcase of what Marlborough can do beyond sauvignon blanc.
