TASTING OF PREMIUM CENTRAL COAST PINOT NOIRS (SANTA LUCIA HIGHLANDS, SANTA MARIA VALLEY, SANTA RITA HILLS & PASO ROBLES) WITH VISIONARY VITICULTURIST GARY PISONI
6:30 p.m., Monday, April 7, 2008 at The Carnelian Room, located on the 52nd floor of the Bank of America Building 555 California Street, San Francisco
For over 20 years, Gary Pisoni has produced Pinot Noir grapes for premium California vintners, gaining world-wide recognition for his uncompromised practices and exceptional fruit. He will join us on April 7 when we will taste, in blind-conditions (meaning that you will not know which wine is in which glass until the results of the tasting are announced), 12 of the finest current releases from California’s Central Coast. Some of these wines are not available at retail vendors--- they have been specially selected for our tasting, and their flavor profiles are bound to impress the wine novice as well as the ardent pinotphile:
• Alma Rosa, La Encantada, Santa Rita Hills • Belle Glos Wines, Las Alturas Vineyard, Santa Lucia Highlands • Byron Vineyards & Winery, Bien Nacido Vineyard, Santa Maria Valley • Capiaux Cellars, Garys' Vineyard, Santa Lucia Highlands • David Bruce Winery, Bien Nacido Vineyard, Santa Maria Valley • Miner Family Vineyards, Rosella's 777, Santa Lucia Highlands • Pisoni Vineyards & Winery, Estate Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands • ROAR, Garys' Vineyard, Santa Lucia Highlands • Sonnet Wine Cellars, Tondre's Grapefield, Santa Lucia Highlands • Tamayo Family Vineyards, Santa Lucia Highlands • Testarossa Vineyards, Cuvée Niclaire Reserve, Santa Lucia Highlands • Windward Vineyard, Gold "Barrel Select", Paso Robles
Before we adjourn, Gary Pisoni will speak about the terroir of his beloved Santa Lucia Highlands. While it may be difficult not to get distracted by the spectacular and uninterrupted views from high atop San Francisco’s most prestigious location, you will relish the rare opportunity to get acquainted with this charming free-spirit who is distinctive in his shoulder-length curls.
The Vintners Club provides a separate Riedel cristal glass for each wine (12 glasses for 12 wines) allowing you to compare the wines side-by-side and to experience their evolution in the glass as the evening progresses. You only need to bring an inquisitive palate and a pencil.
