HARVEST EXPERIENCE IN RIOJA - Saturday October 11th 2008

10.30. Harvest in Rioja.

You will be accompanied by an expert viticultor who will explain about Rioja, grapes, land and vineyards. You will pick up the grapes by hand, and then you will press them with your own feet in one of the stone lagares or lakes that were in use in Rioja during the XVI century.

After such a hard work you will enjoy a well deserved traditional lunch

13.30 h. Traditional lunch with cooking demonstration.

If the weather is good we will have lunch outdoors in a picnic area surrounded by vineyards, if not we will have lunch in a winery. Lunch will be potatoe soup with Spanish paprika sausage (chorizo) and roasted lamb chops, where sarmientos (dry grape vine branches) are used to roast the meat, giving it a unique and delicious flavor. Wine will be served. If the weather is not good we will have to skip the cooking demonstration.

16.30h. Visit Winery Carlos San Pedro Perez de Viñaspre in Laguardia.

This is a small artisan winery in Laguardia. San Pedro family makes wines in an artisan way in Laguardia, Rioja Alavesa since 500 years ago. The cellar today is over 200 years old, and it is located inside the town of Laguardia, eight meters deep, under the streets of Laguardia where motor vehicles are prohibited. This allows for optimum conditions for the aging of wines, perfect temperature and humidity, constant all year long, silence and tranquility. This is one of the few old cellars in Laguardia where they still make wine.
