Wine OR Wine & Food Event

Wine OR Wine & Food

S. João da Pesqueira, in the heart of Douro vineyards prepares itself to welcome another edition of Vindouro, an initiative of the municipality of São João da Pesqueira produced by Essência do Vinho.

The event will gather about 60 producers of Douro Wine in the Exhibition Saloon of S. João da Pesqueira. This year there will be an area reserved for gastronomic tastings, and more surprises are yet to come.

The historical centre will receive live show cookings, where a renowned Chef will do gastronomic demonstrations. Right next door there will be a “Pombaline” market, inspired in the time when the Pombal Marquees governed. He was a very important figure of the Portuguese history and responsible for the demarcation of the region of Douro, more then 250 years ago.

Make a journey to this time with horse riding games, a procession of the time, and the traditional “Pombaline” dinner, where the Cidrô Palace gains a glamorous ambiance in a night that finishes with great animation.

This year, the VINDOURO will be cheerful again with a concert of the musician André Sardet () and the launch of the book “Marquês de Soveral – A Men of Douro and the world”, from the author J.A. Gonçalves Guimarães.

The programme also includes visits to the farms of the region and talks about wine. Before the event’s closing (with a pyrotechnical show) there will also take place an auction of Porto and Douro Wines, and the handing of the Fraternity of Douro Oenophiles awards.

For the president of the City Hall of São João da Pesqueira, António Lima Costa, the VINDOURO assumes itself “as a wine festivity with the quality and dignity that the region of Douro demands”. The president refers that this is an event that gives to visitors the “opportunity to know better the history of the region, its magnificent wines and dazzling landscapes, but also to travel in time and have contact with the “Pombaline” times that marked the history of the Douro vineyards.

VINDOURO takes place in São João da Pesqueira, the biggest wine producer municipality of Porto and Douro and the council that has the biggest area classified as World Heritage by UNESCO.
