| French Wine Seminar Series Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at 7:00PM ***PAYMENT FOR THESE MINI-SEMINARS MUST BE MADE IN ADVANCE THROUGH PAYPAL (OR BY SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT WITH THE ORGANIZER). PLEASE READ ENTIRE ANNOUNCEMENT, PAYMENT DETAILS AT THE BOTTOM***
The PDX Singles Wine group and Burdigala Wines in Sellwood are very pleased to announce a French wine mini-seminar series this month, and the first week of June -- 5 sessions in all. Our good friend, Burdigala owner Didier Sudre will share his knowledge and experience of the wines of his beloved France. This will be a loving, in-depth exploration of the region where wine has been developed and perfected for 2000 years. The seminars will start promptly at 7pm and go to about 8:30, after which, we can socialize and purchase wine pours. If you wish to have dinner afterwards, Seth Matasar, owner of Portofino (just across Tacoma), will waive the corkage fee if you buy your wine from Didier. Session #1 May 7: Bordeaux and Sud-Ouest -- the home of Cabernet Sauvignon, the vineyards in Bordeaux and Southwestern France produce a huge variety of fashionable and unfashionable wines including Cahors, Madiran, Malbec, St. Emilion, and many, many more.
Session #2 May 14: Bourgogne - Maconnais -- We know that Burgundy is the heart of wine, and we will find out why. The southern part of this region, Macon, is known for the development of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Session #3 May 21: The Loire Valley -- Loire is the land of white wine, with emphasis on Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon, and other grapes. Sancerre, Pouilly Fume, and Muscadet can be found here.
Session #4 May 28: Cotes du Rhone -- This wine region is also hugely diverse, and is the home of Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, Hermitage, and many other appellations. Grenache and Syrah have been developed in this region, as well as other grapes.
Session #5 June 4: Alsace -- This region is well known for delicious sweet whites, such as Reisling, Gewürztraminer, and Tokay. The wines from here are similar to German wines from across the Rhine. This is the home of Pinot Gris.
Each session is $21 through PayPal. $1 goes to PayPal's service charges. A great deal of preparation is going into each of these mini-seminars, so we need an accurate head count in advance. If you do not wish to use PayPal, please contact your Organizer, and separate arrangements can be made. However, payment must be in advance. PLEASE MAKE YOUR PAYMENT WITH YOUR RSVP. If you do not, your RSVP will be removed. Please feel free to RSVP again with your payment if this should happen to you. Meeting fee: $21.00 See the full event details at and RSVP at http://singles.meetup.com/1577/calendar/7813057/. |
