| This practice exam will simulate conditions of the actual exam to be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
It has been scheduled following the last of our region-specific Unit 3 classes. Feedback from these practice exams will help students focus their studies during the final four weeks leading up to the actual exam.
The schedule is:
10 a.m. to 11 a.m.- Tasting test 1: two sets of three wines (three white, three red) poured blind. One set of wines will have a common grape variety and a significant number of points can be gained by identifying the variety. The other set of three will have a common factor (e.g. same climate, same vinification methods, etc.) and a significant number of points can be gained by identifying the common factor.
11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.- break.
11:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m.- Tasting Test 2: Two sets of three wines (three white, three red) will be poured. One set will be partly identified (e.g. all 3 wines are Riojas, all 3 wines are Sauvignon Blancs from New Zealand) and a significant number of points can be gained by detailed descriptions of the relative quality of the wines. The other set of wines will be fully blind. This is the tasting test that will have to be taken by "Transitional" Unit 3 students.
12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.- lunch.
1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.- Theory questions. You will answer five essays from among seven choices. All of the standard types of WSET theory questions (e.g., "compare and contrast," "write a paragraph on each of these six terms," etc.) will be included.
There is no charge for these practice exams for anyone taking Unit 3 -- either in-class or home study -- with Phillywine.com. For anyone else the cost is $100. |
