Executive Chef, R. Evan Turney's menu for Mercato is short and sweet, placing primary importance on using ingredients that are at their peak that day. While the menu has Italian accents such as piadine – a pizza that is grilled, rather than baked – and fresh pasta made in-house, it is not limited to strictly Italian cuisine, rather Turney is adopting the Italian style of utilizing seasonal produce that is the finest and most flavorful available and letting it shine. His enthusiasm for pristine product is evident in the way he obtains his raw materials. Turney uses individual purveyors that are ingredient-specific: one purveyor for cheese, one for tomatoes, one for mushrooms, in the same way that you might shop a farmer’s market – going to one stall because you know they have the best fish and to another because they have the best potatoes. The name Mercato means “market” after all.
Mercato is a cash-only BYOB, open seven days a week; Monday through Thursday, from 5 to 10:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, from 5 to 11p.m., and Sunday from 5 to 10 p.m. Reservations are accepted only for pre-theatre dining from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Reservations are not accepted for other times.
