Join us for Cork & Fork's first ever Sake Celebration. Come discover Japanese Sake with Jason Whiteside as he takes us through the different levels of Sake, Ginjo-shu (premium sake), Junmai-shu (pure sake), Hon-jozo-shu (brewage sake), and Futsu-shu (standard sake), explaining the process from grain to bottle. The evening will consist of the tasting of 6 sakes, paired with traditional Japanese cuisine from a locally acclaimed restaurant. Menu to be announced.

Jason Whiteside is a Certified Specialist of Wine, and holds a level 3 Advanced Certificate in Wine and Spirits, and is currently a level 4 Diploma student.

Discover Japanese Sake

Sake is essence of traditional Japanese culture in which Sake is made from the blessings of nature, varying according to the climate of each individual region. The food culture of Japan is centered on rice. Sake, too, has rice as its main ingredient, with a history that extends back 200o years. This is the way that sake embraces the quintessence of Japanese food and culture. The depth and subtlety of fine sake is like the appreciation of an Indian ink drawing. Singular black color drawings appear simple but, upon closer inspection, draws one into a deeper, more graceful world. As we see more, there is an "infinity in a simple color". Fine sake has such power.

Learn to Pair Food with Sake

Sweet food with sweet and dry sake; Rich food with rich sake; Salty food with dry sake; Fishy or gamey foods with rich sake; Acidic foods with sweet sake; Plain foods with Ginjo sake; Greasy foods with refined or aged sake.

This wine event will review 6 sakes in succession with comments from the guest speaker and the attendees. They are limited to 16 participants, charge of $45 per person.

Payment upon reservation. Dates and topics are subject to change.
