About Joe Watson’s Wine Salon

Watson titles his monthly gathering the Wine Salon with the intention of creating an atmosphere similar to that of a literary salon. The salon provides a casual setting along with a sizeable selection of wine to be tasted and discussed. Wine lovers have the opportunity to sample new wines and meet other wine enthusiasts. “I work very hard to seek out smaller importer/distributors who focus on the unique and unusual, and I am regularly referring clients to these folks for information on retail availability. I thought it would be nice to provide the public access to some of these wines and the people behind them in a setting conducive to discussion and most importantly, enjoying wine.” – Joe Watson

About Joe Watson and VINe Wine + Café

VINe (100 South Street, Greenport, NY 11944 [631] 477-6238) separates itself from the stuffy wine stereotype. Conceived by former Nick & Toni’s sommelier Joe Watson, who left a career in investment banking, this stylish bistro a vin offers an extensive selection of wines from “around the world, and around the corner”, but it is Watson’s friendly professional and un-intimidating “wine is for all” attitude that puts the wine curious (and devotee) at ease.

The name VINe suggests the life of wine—starting in the vineyard and continuing in the bottle. Watson’s idea is to extend that life into an atmosphere where customers can comfortably sip, dine and relax. Sixty wines, many selected during Watson’s travels, are available in flights, tastes, by the glass and by the bottle. In addition, rare wines from exceptional vintages consigned from personal collections are rotated to appeal to everyone from the casual sipper to the serious collector. A large selection of sparkling cocktails emphasizing seasonal fruits and imaginative ingredients are also available.
