| We have assembled an auction of several exquisite cellars containing the best of the ‘Old World’ and the ‘New World.’ One could debate which region produces the greatest wine, but in the end it comes down to a matter of taste, which can neither be measured nor qualified. The best way to view the debate is to see the ‘Old World’ as a source of inspiration and the ‘New World’ as a source of innovation.
Every auction develops its own personality and at the heart of this sale are impressive offerings from Bordeaux and Burgundy. This auction features all five First Growths from 1959, as well as full cases of Gruaud-Larose, Haut-Brion, Latour, and Talbot from that infamous vintage. We also have spectacular solid cases of Bordeaux from 1982, 1989, 1990 and 1996. With increased focus on 1982 the time is right to delve into the great 1990 vintage. There are offerings of the impressive 2000s from Haut-Brion, Lafite-Rothschild and Margaux.
This sale has a superb collection of Burgundies from the 1940s and 1950s. Particularly exciting is an exquisite selection of Musigny from Comte de Vogüé from 1949, 1959, 1966. Phenomenal wines from Ligier-Belair, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Claude Dugat and Leroy round out our offerings of great Burgundy.
We are pleased to offer a treasure trove of Ports from Cockburn’s, Croft, Fonseca, Graham's, and Taylor Fladgate focused primarily on the 40s and 60s. For the first time ever we have a selection of fine French spirits dating back to the 1930s from Hine and Laubade. For the lover of all things Rhône, there is a rare case of 1959 Hermitage from Chapoutier.
California leads the ‘New World’ and jumps out of the blocks with Harlan Estate 1993 and Bryant Family 1994. For the avant garde connoisseur you have the likes of Sine Qua Non and Screaming Eagle. There are great selections from Kistler, Marcassin, and Pahlmeyer. Heading north, whispers have turned to shouts when describing Quilceda Creek, which is why we are excited to have 1991, 1993, and 1997 through 2005.
From the Southern Hemisphere are five magnums of 1993 Penfolds Grange, which are rarely seen at auction. There are several offerings of Champagne featuring a Jeroboam of 1989 Cristal and a bottle of 1947 Dom Pérignon. For the perfect finish try Sauternes with a solid case of half-bottles of Yquem from 1988 or 1989.
With offerings from all the great wine regions of the world this auction has a wine for every collector.
