AN AUCTION
OF FINEST & RAREST WINES
Our November 17th auction continues where September left off; this auction is nothing short of spectacular! We have sourced a sister cellar to one of our featured collections from September, which means we have a tremendous collection of classified Bordeaux from 1989 and 1990. We initially wanted to call this the “Lafite Auction” due to the forty full cases of Lafite-Rothschild from 1982-2004, then we realized we have many other great wines from Haut-Brion, Margaux, Mouton-Rothschild, and Latour.
For the ultimate Burgundy collector there is a superb selection of wines from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti; starting with a Methuselah of La Tâche 1972, a jeroboam of La Tâche 1971, a Methuselah of Romanée-Conti 1976, and finishing with Richebourg from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti 1947, 1953, 1959, 1969, and 1985.
The weather has been so warm we were glad to have a deep offering of white Burgundy from Leflaive, Bouchard, and Drouhin. Just in case the weather does start to get cold we have an obscene amount of Port and wines from the Rhône to keep you warm this fall. If that was not enough we have loaded this sale with wines from Opus One, Harlan, Dalle Valle Maya, and vintages of BV Private Reserve from the 1960’s and 1970’s. Since we did not call this the “Lafite Auction” we wanted to share the feelings of our Chairman, Peter J. Morrell on this auction:
“It’s not often any wine auction sees 18 different vintages, spanning 22 years of Chateau Lafite-Rothschild, but this – Morrell & Company’s 63rd Fine Wine Auction – does!
Over my 44 years tasting and enjoying Bordeaux from both cask and bottle, I have always been impressed with the unique personality, remarkable finesse, inimitable charm, and classic flavor profile of Lafite’s brilliant elegant wines, wines which stand out in my palate memory as does no other!
Never entirely equaled, the distinctive familial traits of Lafite’s best vintages guarantee it its justified place at the pinnacle of Pauillac’s quality pyramid. In youth, Lafite’s aromas and flavors of black currant, with hints of pencil lead and cedar ever-so-slowly evolve into classic scents and flavors of mushrooms, black truffles, Asian tea, and dried flowers… altogether uniquely Lafite!
To all who will be bidding on these many extraordinary wines from Lafite. I wish you– good luck!”
