| Jambo means "hello" in Swahili. Jambo is the theme of a unique photography show by three Napa photographers reflecting on two journeys they took to Africa. Kathryne Bandrowski, Betty Malmgren and Priscilla Miles traveled to Tanzania in 2006 and to Kenya in 2008. The exhibit shows two different seasons in Africa; two different countries; two tribes. The photographers visited both Samburu and Maasai villages. They visited an orphanage in Tanzania and a school in Kenya and were captivated by the children.
Photos will be displayed from places as diverse as the Ngorongoro Crater, a huge caldera home to almost every individual species of wildlife in East Africa, and Olduvai Gorge where the Leakeys discoveries dated back some 2 million years.
They photographed Africa's "big five" of rhinoceros, lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo. The cycle of life is evident in the moments they captured from a newborn Thomson's gazelle to lions bringing down a zebra. They captured the beauty of an African sunset, a lone tree in the middle of the plains, and a lake pink with flamingos. The first trip ended with tent camping in the Serengeti where lions came into camp the final morning. The second trip ended with photographing the Maasi Mara from a hot air balloon.
