Thursday, September 4th 6-7 PM, wine lovers can learn why Hahn's Family Wines has become one of the fastest growing labels in California. Savor the chance to sample the 3 Hahn Estates Wines described below along with small samplings from our Chefs Bill Bruening and Tom Repetti.
The 2005 Sacramento Bee's Winemaker of the Year nestled in the highlands of Santa Lucia is renowned for exceptional cabernet sauvignon, meritage, chardonnay, merlot, syrah and pinot noir, having won 26 Gold medals in 2004 and 22 in 2005.
Hahn Estates is owned and operated by the Nicolaus Hahn Family. Nicolaus ("Nicky") Hahn is a Swiss businessman, adventurer and philanthropist whose venturesome spirit brought he and his family to Monterey in the mid 1970s. While living in England, the Hahns had discovered a love for California wines. A two-year search guided them to Monterey County with its breathtaking beauty and ideal growing conditions. Nicky quickly realized that this region had as much potential to produce world-class wines as any other in the state. He and his wife Gaby purchased Smith & Hook Winery in 1980, laying the groundwork for their long-term commitment to bring out the full potential of Monterey. In German, "Hahn" means "Rooster" and for this reason a rooster embellishes the Hahn Estates label, honoring the Hahn family's European heritage.
Thank you for letting us share our true passion for food, its preparation, its excitement and its magic with you. It will be our pleasure to serve you.

Hahn Estates 2005 Central Coast Cabernet Sauvignon Bright aromatics of raspberry, cassis, and a hint of olive all underscored with spice and toasted notes. Plums, currant, and other dark fruits fill the mouth in velvet plushness. Resolved and melting tannins that lifts the flavors and leaves the mouth with a perception of Swiss milk chocolate. A delicate thread of acidity helps carry the length well into the finish.
Hahn Estates 2006 Monterey Pinot Noir The deep but muted ruby hue hints at the silky tannins of this dynamic and multi-faceted wine. The white and black pepper background aromas blend nicely with clove fragrances on the front. Every sip uncovers new flavors and textures. When given time, the wine evolves from edgy to extreme bliss with a tangy burst of fruit and spice, backed by cool-climate acidity that carries each separate flavor component on to the next sip. The structure and balanced acidity of this wine allows the flavors to hang for a moment before it finishes witha light, slow and even departure that leaves the mouth infused with fresh pomegranate flavors.
Hahn Estates 2006 Monterey Chardonnay The clean golden color of this full-spectrum Chardonnay stands out and enhances the experience created by the distinct aromas of apricot, peach and pineapple. Balanced on a delicate thread of oak, the palate is pleased with a lush mixture of green apple and tropical fruits that persist well into the finish on a platform of crisp acidity. Harvested at optimum maturity during the first two weeks of October from Hahn Estates' own Lone Oak, Hook and Ste. Philippe estate vineyards, diligent blending has created an exceptionally complex and pleasant Chardonnay. |
