 A glance at the line-up of two and three-glass scores in any recent Gambero Rosso guide, not to mention annual 92+ point ratings from Parker and Tanzer, clearly prove that Giorgio Rivetti of La Spinetta is a Piedmont superstar! Less than 20 years ago this cantina didn't even make red wine, but was known only for Moscato d'Asti. In a short time, Giorgio Rivetti has become a force in the Italian wine scene and has transformed his winery La Spinetta into an icon.  Some have call Giorgio Rivetti a modernist but the truth is Giorgio incorporates elements of both strict tradition and modern methods in his approach.  Although La Spinetta is making a splash with the wines from its newest project in Tuscany , Giorgio will be on-hand to walk us through the new releases of his wines from Piemonte at this tasting.   

The tasting will start with La Spinettas silky and complex Barberas from the 2004 vintage, a vintage that can be called perfect as we are only quoting what growers themselves have said.  Many have hailed Giorgio as the Master of Barbera, these wines will show you why.  Next, a new wine, the 2004 Langhe Nebbiolo made from the young vines of the renowned Barbaresco Starderi vineyard  certainly an affordable introduction to Barbaresco.   The 2004 Super-Piedmont Pin, a blend of Nebbiolo and Barbera is seamlessly integrated and well balanced while the individual characteristics of each varietal are still evident.  The single vineyard 2001 Barolo Campe, only the second vintage of this wine for La Spinetta, is stunning and shows tremendous quality and long term potential.  We will finish the tasting with the 2005 Moscato d'Asti Bricco Quaglia, the delicate and fresh single-vineyard Moscato that first put La Spinetta on the map.   

  The idea is to relax, taste and enjoy the  wines featured that day with some cheese, You can come and go as you please.
