This week enjoy dinner at Madeleine's:
"Chef Claud Beltran (ex Cayo and Restaurant Halie, formerly in this space) “has done it again” according to Pasadena diners who say his “spot-on” Californian cooking (chock-full of “seasonal ingredients and real pride”) paired with a “unique and affordable” wine selection makes it a “definite hit”; the staff is “knowledgeable”, but the highest ratings go to the “absolutely romantic” decor of the “historic building”, warmed by “cozy” fireplaces." - Zagat.com
"This seductive restaurant occupies Pasadena's historic Cheesewright Building, where Albert Einstein roamed the halls when the building served as a secret military facility in the 1940s. Madeleines' main dining area showcases a dramatic front room complete with high beamed ceiling, massive stone fireplace and a sultry palette of dark red, mustard and gold leaf accents. Generously spaced candlelit tables and booths make for a relaxed setting in which to enjoy the cuisine of veteran Pasadena chef Claud Beltran. Down the hall is an intimate patio and cozy wine bar, offering flights of wine and a bistro menu in addition to the regular fare. Starters might include beautifully caramelized Sea of Cortez scallops with stewed leeks and a luxurious saffron sauce, or crab and Japanese cucumber salad with miso-truffle vinaigrette. A pan-seared New York steak is accompanied by a potato-tarragon cake, and venison tenderloin comes with pearl barley and a black grape-Cabernet sauce. The eclectic wine list features a global orientation and refreshingly reasonable prices; in addition, about 50 selections are offered by the glass. The intense chocolate terrine makes a satisfying finale, and the restaurant provides a very credible cheese plate as well." - Gayot.com |
