| Restaurateur Ed “Jean Luc” Kleefield announced the opening of GRAPPA WINE BAR at the former site of Sag Harbor’s Cajun hotspot, Mumbo Gumbo. This new Italian bistro and café also introduces a new concept to the Hamptons’ dining scene as the first classic boutique wine bar on the South Fork.
GRAPPA WINE BAR reflects the Sag Harbor community by offering an artsy, yet festive and relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant features a 40-seat wrap-around wine bar, a dramatic eight-foot fireplace, Grecian urns around the bar trellis, high banquettes, antique chandeliers, rich oak floors and mahogany wood elements. Ten large grappa urns soaking full fruits and herbs are displayed in the 75-seat dining room and, in keeping with the restaurant’s festive spirit, are ready to pour “on the house” for guests’ birthdays.
The menu features paninis, light salads and entrees, tapas, ten daily gelatos, grilled pizzettes, artisanal cheese plates, and salami and fruit platters. Prices range from $6.75 to $13 for appetizers, $8.50 to $27 for entrées and $3.50 to $7 for desserts. Specialty items include: large Viennese meatballs in a crockpot (like Mama makes them); seared tuna Caesar salad with country olives; shrimp in red sauce tossed in angel hair pasta; whole roasted and scored blackfish in lemon and capers; mint tea gelato; Italian tartufo cheesecake with fresh blueberries. GRAPPA WINE BAR also offers 50 Long Island and international wines by the glass.
The restaurant is open seven days and serves lunch and brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., dinner from 5 p.m. to midnight, and drinks and tapas from 5 p.m. to 4 a.m.
