What happens to all the Single Malt Scotches that are produced by the over 100 distilleries in Scotland? The vast majority are used in blends such as Johnnie Walker and Chivas Regal - never reaching the market as Single Malts.
However, two Canadian Scotch enthusiasts have decided to change this situation. In 2004 Barry Bernstein and Barry Stein formed Premium Bottlers Inc. with the specific mandate to seek out many of these hidden gems, import them into Canada by the cask, and then bottle them as single cask offerings.
While officially "blended whiskies" each of Premuim Bottlers' products contains a ratio of 99% single malt Scotch whisky to 1% Canadian single malt whisk(e)y, and each is aged in Canada before bottling. Some of these products are now listed at the LCBO but most are only available via private order.
At 6:30pm on Saturday, November 1, 2008 The Millcroft Inn & Spa will be hosting a unique culinary event featuring The Millcroft's award-winning 'Four Diamond' cuisine and the exquisite whiskies of Premium Bottlers Inc.
This event will include:
- a welcome reception
- a six (6) course gourmet dinner menu with each course expertly paired with a specific Premium Bottler's' whisky, or a wine chosen by Millcroft Sommelier Patrick Field.
- presentations by Millcroft Executive Chef Roberto Fracchioni, Barry Stein and Barry Bernstein
Four (4) whiskies will be sampled and presented during the event. The menu will be posted soon.
$145 per person, plus taxes and gratuities.

This is a 'must attend' event for Scotch enthusiasts and lovers of exquisite cuisine. The story behind this business is as facinating as the whiskies it produces.
