Wine OR Wine & Food Event

Wine OR Wine & Food

Join Slow Food Boston for our annual Film Series - next up is the 2004 'expose' wine documentary...

Wine is BIG business nowadays. Some may say that's a good thing - more people drinking, more people buying, happier winemakers and vineyard owners, right? On the other hand, many others bemoan the loss of diversity in wines, the loss of (dare we say it?) terroir due to the globalization of the wine industry.

Filmmaker Jonathan Nossiter explored these issues and more in his 2005 film, and caused much ruffling of feathers in the wine community when it was released.

Jonathan originally traveled to France with the plan to stay for two months visiting wineries and expanding the knowledge he had already gained as a trained sommelier in New York. Instead, he found himself working for three years in various countries where he investigated changes in the wine industry, from mom and pop wine growers to the huge conglomerates, – and discovered what those changes mean for the producers themselves and for us, the consumers, and the wine in our glasses.
