This is part of an 8-class series.

Varietal Death Match is not really a fight to the death, of course; afterall, the grapes were killed when they were harvested. What we’ll really be doing is examining the traits of two different varietals that have some similar characteristics or the same varietal from different regions. After tasting several wines made from each varietal you should have a better understanding of what you enjoy in a wine and why, generally speaking, you may prefer one grape or region over another. All this information will help you the wine drinker make better choices for yourself, and, when you seek advice or recommendations from the wine store staff or a restaurant’s sommelier, help you better describe your overall preferences.
