| Blind tasting involves tasting and evaluating wines without any knowledge of their identities. This is done because knowing the identity of a wine prejudices the evaluator for or against a wine because of its geographic origin, price, reputation, or some other considerations.
There is an art and science to tasting a wine blind and then deciphering what it is. Like any query there is a set way to solving the problem. Think of a glass of wine as a jigsaw puzzle with the label of the wine the finished product. The sight, smell and taste of the wine are pieces of the puzzle to ultimately determine what it is in the glass.
Tasting a wine blind is one of the best ways to establish an unbiased opinion about the wine. Any knowledge that you have about a wine can cloud your judgment or influence your assessment. To be a wine expert you must develop objectivity in wine evaluation. Therefore, the best way to make an objective (honest?) assessment is to know nothing at all before performing an evaluation and making a determination as to the quality and value of a wine.
