Texas artist Lance Frazior will be at The Winery demonstrating a pottery technique called Raku Horsehair Firing. If you have ever wanted to fire your own pottery or see how pottery is fired, this is a great way to participate and create your own masterpiece. Native Americans used natural items, such as animal hair, to decorate their pots and were the first to create horse air firing. For a nominal fee, you can fire and apply the horsehair technique to a selected pottery piece. The technique is simple: An unfired piece of pottery is placed in a kiln and fired at extremely high heat levels; then, the pottery is taken out of the kiln with tongs and horsehair is applied to the pottery for a truly unique look. The horsehair singes as it touches the pottery creating beautiful black lines. After the piece has cooled, you can take your creation home.
