Spanish Varietals Wine Tasting

miniXcapes is hosting a Spanish Varietals Wine Tasting event at Second Street Art Market & Wine Bar. Get out your castanets and we’ll put on the flamenco music—come in, savor and learn about some of the new exciting Spanish wines that have burst onto the scene in recent years. Tasting fee will include five wines along with a compliment of traditional Spanish foods, dessert and coffee and gratuity.

The Menu

Malaga Tapas

assorted spanish cheese and meat, olives with cracked wheat bread

Ceviche

scallop ceviche with cilantro-tomatillo salsa

Paella

traditional spanish paella with shrimp, scallops and sausage

Grand Sequoia

bittersweet chocolate mousse with orange liquer, wrapped in chocolate bark

THE WINE

2007 Borsao Rosado – A delicious rose as well as a heck-of-a-bargain, the crisp, elegant, light-bodied 2007 Borsao Rose (100% Grenache) displays lovely framboise and strawberry aromas and flavors.

2006 Vega Sindoa Chardonnay – The 2006 Chardonnay was barrel-fermented in new French oak and left in cask for four months on the lees with weekly batonnage. Medium-straw-colored, it has a slightly toasty, buttered popcorn scented nose along with mineral and green apple notes. On the palate this Chablis-like wine has good depth and concentration.

2006 Onix Priorat – The 2006 Onix is a blend of Garnacha old-vines and Carinena. It is medium ruby-colored with a bouquet of mineral, earth notes, leather, blueberry, and cherry. Elegant on the palate, it reveals a smooth-texture, excellent depth, and a pure close.

2006 Juan Gil – It was sourced from an estate vineyard with forty-five years of age. This purple-colored wine offers superb aromatics of wood smoke, damp earth, violets, and blueberry pie. Layered, succulent, and long.

2006 Jorge Ordonez Seleccion Especial – The 2006 Seleccion Especial is stainless steel fermented. Light strawcolored with a slight green tint, it offers an alluring perfume of jasmine, honey, and tropical fruits. Medium-sweet, the wine is balanced by lively acidity.
