Zealous (419 W. Superior St.) celebrates twelve years of contemporary American cuisine with a delicious Turn Back the Clock tasting menu. Throughout the month of July, Chef Michael Taus invites guests to experience the restaurant’s original five-course tasting menu at its original price of $45. Patrons may choose to add wine pairings, also available at the original 1993 price of $30. For the past twelve years, Chef Taus and his culinary team have made excellence their number one priority, incorporating fresh, farm-raised ingredients and modern preparations into their cuisine. Innovation was Chef Taus’s specialty twelve years ago and continues to be so today. His contemporary menu and sophisticated preparations have remained a hallmark of Zealous’s cuisine throughout the years. Offering a tasty glimpse of the past, the Turn Back the Clock menu will feature: Shortstack Mango Pancakes, Savory Caramel Sauce and Sunnyside Up Quail Egg ~ Southwestern Seafood Martini Infused with Ketel One Vodka ~ Thai New Zealand Lamb Chops, Wild Mushroom Ragout with Ginger Couli ~ Seasame Crusted Chilean Sea Bass, Pan Fried Angel Hair Pasta with Red Coconut Curry Sauce ~ Herbed Gnocchi with Wild Mushrooms in a Porcini Mushroom Broth with Aged Romano Cheese In addition to Zealous’s Turn Back the Clock menu, the restaurant will also offer its customary seven-course and vegetarian tasting menus, à la carte options, as well as a selection of dim sum offerings in the lounge. Designed by New York architect William Leeds, Zealous is an urban oasis in Chicago’s River North neighborhood. The converted warehouse is a contemporary loft-like space with 18-foot ceilings that lend airiness to the room. The elegant lounge area houses a brilliant stainless steel bar with Ethiopian onyx-covered highlights. Richly-colored eggplant chairs create sophisticated warmth in the dining area. A soaring wall of bamboo surrounds Zealous’s breathtaking Chef’s table in the center of the skylight-topped restaurant and accentuates the room’s spaciousness. The visual focus of the Zen-chic dining room is the 15-foot glass-enclosed wine cellar that houses the restaurant’s 750-plus selection. The private dining room, which views the wine cellar, completes the space. Zealous is open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. until 11 p.m. and select Sundays and Mondays.
