Southern Spain never gets mentioned in the same category as its more famous northern brothers-Rioja, Ribera, Priorat, et al. But this is changing dramatically and wine critics from David Rosengarten to Robert Parker are giving this region its long overdue recognition. Our tour starts in Valencia on March 17 during the height of the Fallas Festival, an annual insane fiesta which culminates on March 19 when giant papier-maché and wood statues are set on fire during a gigantic fireworks display. We'll visit the avant-garde wine regions of Jumilla and Yecla, then on to Alicante and Utiel-Requena.
