| Usually when one first thinks of wines from California, Cabernet & Chardonnay are the first varietals to come to mind. Today we will be featuring the two varietals that put California on the map. Our guest speaker will be Chris Riesbeck of Slocum & Sons. Join us as he shares with us a selection of wines that depict the essence of true California sunshine.
Wines that will be tasted:
Hess Vineyards Su'skol Vineyard Chardonnay 2005
Aromas of cantaloupe, guava, pineapple followed by a concentrated and rich palate of Asian pear, with a citrus finish. The bright acidity and creamy mouthfeel are well-balanced in the mid-palate. 30% of new French oak gives a hint of vanilla in the background.
Ramey Russian River Chardonnay 2005
Light gold. Strong smoke and minerals complement fresh pear and apple aromas. Crisp and linear, with vibrant orchard fruit flavors, a gentle hint of smoked meat and lively acidity on the close. Lots of flavor here but no undue weight or fat; this is strikingly racy.
Hess Vineyards Allomi Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2004
This vintage displays ripe plum and black licorice followed by cedar, currant, and toast. The flavors are expansive starting with black cherry and fi nishing back to fleshy plum. The texture of the wine lets you know it’s a Cabernet; deep, concentrated, but supple tannins round out in the after taste.
Ramey Napa Valley Claret 2004
Deep red. Elegant, sharply focused currant aromas show bright mineral lift. Sweet and juicy, with supple tannins and fresh red berry flavors given support by firm acidity. This has Old World spice and tannin structure, finishing on a bright red fruit note.
