ABOUT:

Slow Food is a non-profit, eco-gastronomic member-supported organization founded in 1989 to counteract fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world. www.slowfoodatlanta.org

Terra Madre is an international community of food producers, chefs/cooks and educators who aim to explore new and different methods of food production-- an approach that is attentive to environmental resources, global balance and product quality. The meeting of more than 6000 individuals from 120 countries will focus on issues of concern to all food producers today: biodiversity, hunger, poverty, water, sustainability, both traditional and new technologies, organic agriculture, the role of women, and the linkage between rural economic development and the prevention of conflicts. These and many other issues will be discussed by various workgroups, and will be conducted in a spirit of constructive proposal at the conference in Turin, Italy the last week of October. www.terramadre.info. GO ADVENTUROUS: CHATTOOGA WHITEWATER STYLE

Chattooga WhitewaterOutfitters has your kayak, hiking trail, fishing adventure, etc…

http://www.chattoogawhitewatershop.com - add +$50-250

Hike a Waterfall, kayak through the scene in “Deliverance”, rent a duckie… The Chattooga River is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful rivers in the United States. It runs 57 miles south from Whiteside Mountain in North Carolina and drops on average 49 ft per mile. The name Chattooga comes from the Native American Cherokee and means “we crossed here”. The river currently serves as the boundary between the states of Georgia and South Carolina. In 1974 the Chattooga was designated as a National Wild and Scenic River which has helped protect the river and its watershed. This act helped to protect a wonderful corridor of untouched land 1/4 on either side of its banks

The Chattooga remained relatively unknown to most people until the now famous Deliverance was filmed here in the early 1970's. Burt Reynolds and Jon Voight stared in the movie whose scenes were filmed on the Chattooga, as well as the nearby Chauga and Tallulah rivers. This brought fame and a reputation to the area.

Enjoy Personal Time Option: 2:30pm - 5pm.

Pick the orchard for apples and pears, take a nap on the knoll overlooking the vineyard with the view of Tiger Mountain, lounge on picnic blankets that are available for your use. Sneak in a lazy afternoon nap or head out and explore on your own. If you would like to join us back at the porch at 5pm for the cheese presentation by Taste Network please add $20.
